In short - Odoo is a modular ERP system. Its strength lies in the fact that it works as a collection of applications: you start with the ones that are essential, and install the rest as your company grows (e.g., inventory, sales, invoicing). All applications in Odoo are compatible with each other.

Now let's focus on one of these applications - or module, as Odoo calls it - namely HR.

Human Resources is the foundation of every successful enterprise. Odoo offers a full suite of HR applications that support the company and encourage the development of both the business and its employees.

When the HR department runs smoothly, it builds trust among employees and fosters a great company culture, transforming your company from good to outstanding.

HR in Odoo

The core of your HR department in Odoo is the Employees module.

On the main dashboard of this application, you will see all your employees, with search and filtering capabilities (e.g., by Department). By clicking on a specific department, Odoo will display only the employees who belong to it.

Next to each employee's card, there is a chat icon, which, using the fully integrated Odoo Discuss application, allows you to immediately start a conversation with the user online.



Quick Filtering and Mass Editing

In addition to filtering by departments, you can use predefined filters. For example, as an HR employee, you can quickly check who is AbsentToday. A small airplane icon next to an employee's card means that they are currently on a vacation.

You can also search for employees with specific skills. If you need someone who can code in Python, you simply type "python" into the skills search bar.

In the List View, you have the option of mass editing categories such as Department, Job Position, and Manager. This is extremely useful when you want to, for example, assign yourself as the manager for the entire Sales Department - just select all employees and mass-update their records.

Creating Departments and New Employees

Creating new departments is just as simple. Just go to Departments, click New, enter the name (e.g., Marketing), select the Manager, and the new department will appear on the list.

In the Work Information tab, an Organization Chart is automatically created, which becomes increasingly useful as the company grows. You can also set the employee's work schedule and time zone here (which is crucial in applications such as TimeOff or Planning).



Useful Quick Access Features

At the top of the employee profile page, there are so-called smart buttons, which provide a quick overview of what is happening with the employee. Examples of such smart buttons include:

Contracts - quick access to all employee agreements. You will see start and end dates, salary, position, and contract change history. You can also create a new contract or extend the current one with one click.

Time Off - a preview of all leave requests, both approved and pending. HR can also independently approve or reject a request here, without needing to go to another application.

Equipment - a list of equipment assigned to the employee (e.g., laptop, phone, access card). You can also see when the equipment was issued, what its serial number is, and who is responsible for its return or service.

Documents - all files related to a given employee in one place: contracts, certificates, copies of IDs, permissions, etc.. You can also directly add or update them here.


Remember: If you do not have the related applications installed, some smart buttons may be invisible!
